More than ever, people want to experience making something of lasting value with their own hands, learn a past skill or pick up a new hobby. Whatever your motivation, you are invited to take classes at our blacksmith shop in Logan, Ohio.
You’ll learn the economics of blacksmithing, necessary equipment if you would like to start your own shop, and the basic skills for your first creations. Men, women and children (12 and up) are all welcome to experience a day as a blacksmith. Doug and his family will ensure that your experience is enjoyable, safe and educational.

Took the beginner class. The instructors are first rate. Doug, Danielle and David all have a great passion for Blacksmithing. The Lockheart’s welcome you into their home and feed you an incredible lunch. Quit trying to decide and take this class you won’t be sorry.
You arrive at an 1800’s log cabin and working farm. The Blacksmith shop is awesome and set up to perfection. Doug and his daughters were definitely informative and hands on. They explained and showed every step for introductory blacksmithing and I could tell they loved the art/craft. Lunch was in the home and also a beautiful sight, Doug’s family treat you like one of their own. Would definitely recommend this class to anyone who would like to learn a skilled trades.

If you are interested in taking a class on blacksmithing, I would highly recommend this one. I really like the fact that SOSB stresses teaching you several basic hammering skills. By the end of the day, you end up combining all those skills into final project.
The wife and I took the beginner class of October 13th. Excellent class, Doug and his family are awesome!! I have taken other beginner blacksmithing classes with other organizations in the past and have alway left them feeling like I was missing something and had no confidence to start working independently of a project of my own. Doug’s instructions and real life experience have me excited and ready to start working on my own.
What an awesome experience! My son and I took the beginner’s class and were “hooked!” Very thankful to the Lockhart family for opening their shop and home to help set us up for success in our blacksmithing adventures.
Classes are generally limited to 14 people. This way, we can provide a personalized experience with the hands-on training you want.
